OUTPOST FIREWALL IS THE MOST ADVANCED WINDOWS BASED FIREWALL AVAILIABLE
2008/2009 FOR VISTA 32/64bit
(WITH IP BLOCKLIST CAPABILITY - PEERGUARDIAN LIST COMPATIBLE)
Agnitum Outpost is the first personal firewall developed with Open Architecture. It is also the first personal firewall that supports plug-ins. Sample plug-ins are included to show how this revolutionary technology can easily be employed for such tasks as Intrusion Detection, Advertisement Blocking, Content Filtering, E-mail Guard, and Privacy Control. It is equipped with every feature a personal firewall should have. It is the most functional firewall in the world. Outpost supports all the latest security techniques and features such as: Full Stealth Mode, Anti-Leak, and MD5 Authentication. Outpost Firewall has a "auto learn" mode which can be turned on for a specific amount of timeduring or after your initial installation. Outpost can be set to learn all of your software and hardware network rules automatically, and create the specific traffic rules necessary for them to access the internet for updates and normal usage without any user intervention or manually creating rules.
Compatable with your antivirus software - Outpost Firewall will detect your current antivirus software and create compatibility changes so not to interfere with your antivirus software. During installation Outpost Firewall will notify you if any changes are to be made to assure complete compatibility.
If you are looking for a all in one solution (firewall, antivirus, spam filtering, antispyware, IP blocking) you should look at Agnitum Outpost Security Suite. However if you want strictly a hardened firewall with anti-spyware (optional install) and IP blocklist capabilities, read on.
Whats new in 2009?
The Blockpost plugin was originally developed by an Outpost fan and was designed to prevent any installed software from accessing malicious web sites or ad networks by using a blacklist of IP addresses. Many of you wanted to see this feature as an integrated part of the Outpost products, but there were compatibility issues with Outpost 2008 related to support for Vista, IPv6 and x64 systems. Agnitum was able to resolve these issues, and integrated this plugin within Outpost Firewall. Blockpost now works faster, is more reliable, and fully supports the new Outpost Firewall version. There are many uses for blocking specific IP addresses. Former Peerguardian users now have an alternative, because Peerguardian currently does not support Vista. Outposts IP blocker plugin can actually be a Peerguardian replacement for Vista until a stable peerguardian candidate is released. You do not have as much functionality as you would with Peerguardian but at least it works. Expect more functionality in the near future. Blockpost & IP Block Lists
Blockpost’s IP address blacklist is completely user-controlled and user-generated. You can upload your own lists of infective IPs, even define a range of IP numbers that you consider unsafe. And you don’t have to spend extra time creating rules - there are text-based lists of bad IPs easily available on the Internet or visit our IP blocklist page which contains many useful links.
In Outpost 2009, Agnitum embedded the Blockpost functionality into the IP Blocklist tab on the Firewall menu. Using the Add button, you can specify host addresses as IP, IP range, IP with mask, and domain name; the Remove button deletes any selected address from the list, and Remove all clears the entire list. The Export and Import buttons save or upload lists of addresses from a file IP blocklist text file. The lists for the old Blockpost plug-in are fully compatible with the new module, and Peerguardian IP list formats are completely compatible with the Blockpost Plugin.
Blocking events are added to the Packet Log as Blocked according to IP Blocklist. The ability to log the blocking event or show a corresponding alerts are controlled by the Log. You can view all the dropped packets and have the option to show visual alerts when a packet is dropped.
As you know, Agnitum offers three security products for home users. This chart below should help you tell the difference between Outpost Security Suite Pro, Outpost Firewall Pro and Outpost Antivirus Pro and choose what kind of protection meets your needs and expectations.
