The Iron Key is perhaps the most secure flashdrive availiable today. With its current update, the Ironkey has made the use of third party applications more user friendly by allowing users to move shortcuts to the Iron Key's menu. This can be done relitively easy through the Iron Key's built in "wizard". The first step you will need to do is find some "portable applications" you would want to install and run on your Iron Key. A portable application is an application stored on a USB flash drive that can run on a computer without leaving any trace of itself when the application is finished. It is designed to restore all changed settings when the program is closed.
To find portable applications you can begin to look at some of these sites:
Some of our favorite and useful apps are Clamwin Antivirus, Ccleaner, and Thunderbird. All of these are portable.
1. Once you have found the applications you want to use, open your Iron Key and click on the Secure Files icon.
2. Create a folder to store your apps in, for instance: "Program Files" in your Secure Files folder.
3. Place the applications into seperate folders inside the program files folder, naming the new folders the name of your application you are installing.
4. Once you have all your portable apps in their folder, right click on the Iron Key's menu as seen in the image to the right:
5. Click "Add Application"
6. Now search for the executable file in your program file folders you created on your Iron Key, this will add the shortcut to the Iron Key's menu making it convenient for you to utilize the Iron Key's menu to run your apps.
7. If you wish to remove the clutter or if you wish to not have your Program Files folder show up in your Secure Files folder, simply make the Program Files folder hidden.
*This is just a simple example of how install your applications and can be done any way your choose. You do not have to have the application shortcuts on the menu to be able to run them.
